Model Note-Taking Sample 📝

Earliest Forms (5,000 yrs ago): - Loc: Mesopotamia & Egypt. Key purpose: NOT direct lang recording. - Used Pictographs (symbols = physical objects, e.g. grain/tools). Pictographs vs. Logographic: - Logographs = more complex. Symbols represent words/ideas, not just objects. - Ex: Chinese characters (V. Important example). Problems with Early Systems: - Main Challenge: Memorization. Users need to learn massive # of symbols. (High cognitive load). Phonetic Writing & Phoenicians: - Major shift: Symbols = sounds (phonemes). More flexible/easier to learn. - Phoenician system: Limited symbols, but ONLY consonants (No vowels). - Greek innovation: Added vowel symbols = higher accuracy in spoken lang. Spread & Survival: - Success factors: Political power, trade networks, and admin needs. - Simpler systems adopted faster by new populations. Modern Changes: - Digital comm: Shorter words + new symbols (emojis/etc). - BUT: Ancient principles established 1000s of yrs ago still in use today.
